Useful tools for psycholinguists
- Lexique (it was first a psycholinguistic database for French; now it has other useful French resources)
- R (a very powerful free software for statistics , if you want a graphical interface, try it with Rcmdr or pmg)
- Perl (a powerful tool for manipulating texts; it is with perl that I made the database Lexique)
- Ultraedit (a very powerful text editor; you have to pay, but it's worth the price and better than any free software editor)
- Var3 (an easy and powerful software for ANOVA's. This version is working under XP thanks to Thérèse Collins)
Experiment generators
- E-Prime (a good experiment generator; good support)
- PxLab (a good free experiment generator; almost no support)
- Dmdx (a free experiment generator; read this page before trying dmdx)
Used with CheckVocal, it's far the best solution for the moment for naming experiments.
- UsbMouseRate (software to change your usb polling rate to 1 every ms with win2000/XP)
Ressources I made
- Undows Make it easier to work with unix tools under Windows
- Memo Perl All the commands I need the most for working with Perl
- Memo R All the commands I need the most for working with R
- Azk2txt 1.05 [Perl script]
Transform your dmdx result file in a text file with the item number,
its conditions, the rt, and the errors in a way that you will be able
to import in any statistical software (I use it intensively).
If you use it with a set of tools I'll soon post, you're able to make
analysis of dmdx experiments in a few minutes.
- Pcut 1.01 [Perl script] Allow to extract the columns in the order you want. (an advantage if we compare it to cut (in textutils)
- Transpose 1.00 [Perl script] Transforms a file organised by columns in a file organised by lines.
Original file
a 0
b 1
c 2
Output file
a
b
c
0
1
2 - Mean 1.24 [Perl script] If your file is organized by lines, it computes the mean of your line, removes the outliers (+/- two standard deviations but you can change that in the source code).
Finally it writes:
-An output with your conditions and the resulted mean.
-An output with your items and which are outliers.
